NY Times Article on The Lonely Island

The New York Times has a brief article on Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, otherwise known as The Lonely Island, which can be viewed here. The article focuses on how The Lonely Island have carried on the tradition of the novelty song into the twentieth century, successfully incorporating absurd comedy and hip-hop influences into insanely catchy songs and in turn, creating viral video sensations.

Hollywood Hotel's Very SNL Greeting | NY Times

From NY Times -
How many businesses can boast that their holiday video greeting card was made by a “Saturday Night Live” threesome?
In September, the boutique Sunset Tower Hotel, an entertainment industry hangout in West Hollywood, Calif., already had holiday card plans on its mind to send to its list of 5,000 customers. Trying to come up with something unique, the hotel’s owner, Jeff Klein, decided to ask Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone if they would make a video for him.
The three have been writing and performing sketches together since junior high but now work for “S.N.L.” They have been behind now-classic viral videos like “Lazy Sunday” and “Motherlover.” The three New York comedians, who use the hotel as their California home base, agreed.
The one-minute video is reminiscent of their hit 2008 short, “Andy Popping Into Frame,” in which Mr. Samberg suddenly appears in mundane footage shot on the streets of Manhattan. Instead of starring Mr. Samberg, the Sunset Tower video features Dimitri Dimitrov, Mr. Klein’s maître d’hôtel.
Mr. Klein declined to say if he had paid the entertainers to make the video, but added that “we always take great care of those boys when they stay with us.”
Watch the video here.

MacGruber - Behind The Scenes short

Can't believe that I didn't see this until now, but check out this characteristically odd/wacky short from the MacGruber set courtesy of MacGruber director Jorma Taccone.

SPOILER ALERT - he has a pornstache.

MacGruber Red Band Trailer

Check it out, ninjas! It's the MacGruber trailer! I'm pretty impressed with it, if only for the seemingly high production values - I did worry that it might look a little cheap-action-movie. What do you guys think? Psyched or very not psyched?

SNL AT THE EMMYS!

Saturday Night Live has picked up tons of Emmy nominations this year!

Kristen Wiig & Amy Poehler BOTH were nominated for Best Supporting Actress in A Comedy. This is Amy's second nomination, as she was snubbed this year for her work on Parks and Recreation.

Justin Timberlake & Tina Fey also picked up nominations for Best Guest Actor in a Comedy Series and Best Guest Actress in A Comedy Series respectively for their work on SNL.

Saturday Night Live was also nominated for Best Variety Show, competing against Real Time With Bill Maher, Late Show with David Letterman, The Colbert Report & The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
The writers were recognised in the Best Writing for A Variety/Comedy Show.

And last but not least, Motherlover was nominated for Best Original Song. The guys all won it a couple of years ago for Dick In A Box, so hopefully they can pull it off again this year!

Congrats to all involved!

MacGruber Movie News

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Ryan Phillipe and ValBold Kilmer are reportedly in talks to star in what could be the worst idea ever or the greatest idea ever. As you probably know, Will Forte, Jorma Taccone and John Solomon have penned a script for the movie, which according to Reuters, "finds the legendary, much-decorated MacGruber retired and living as a monk in Ecuador -- until he's enlisted to fight the evil Cunth, who has a nuclear warhead; the mission is personal because Cunth killed MacGruber's bride."
Phillipe would play Piper, an army soldier forced to pair up with MacGruber and Val Kilmer as Cunth. Will Forte and Kristen Wiig will reprise their roles from the sketches.

What do you think? Are you looking forward to MacGruber : The Motion Picture or should it remain as the funny sketches that grace our screens every few weeks?

This is a new clip from that little indie movie Land of the Lost featuring Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, Anna Friel & SNL's very own Jorma Taccone as the adorable Chaka. Enjoy!
