Thoughts on Taylor Lautner/Bon Jovi

Post your thoughts here as to what you thought of last night's show. How was Taylor Lautner in comparison to fellow Taylor, Taylor Swift? Best sketch, worst sketch? An improvement on last week's?

I thought it was pretty good, although it kind of petered off at the end with the doorbells sketch. The kenan/yogurt shop/love thing made me laugh out loud the first time I saw it, but upon seeing again it doesn't seem as funny. The opening monologue wasn't bad, although it seems there's this trend of having big host openings with lots of jumping or dancing (I'm thinking Joseph-Gordon Levitt, Gerard Butler, Ryan Reynolds) which I'm kind of ambivalent about. Update was pretty strong, I laughed pretty hard at least twice, which when taking into account how tough it is to write topical bits that get more than a smirk, is pretty remarkable. The football sketch wasn't bad, and Taylor sold it pretty well. I thought the Team Jacob/Team Edward sketch was kind of inevitable, and felt pretty flat.

and I thought the cold open was OK, I giggled i think once or twice, but other than that it felt pretty flat. and am I the only one who is unbelievably sick of political cold opens?

I missed parts of the cold open, but I honestly thought this was a much stronger SNL than many for this season. The Sue sketch was good for a re-hash, the Team Edward/Team Jacob things was hilarious to anyone who has had to listen to people talk about that stuff, Jenny actually got to play a couple main characters, and Update was pretty solid. I thought this was a strong week.

what happened to the random cold openings, why so much politics?

I would say the show was pretty good. The PGA Tour bits were by far my favorite (notice the last one is sponsored by the letter "Q"). Taylor did much better than I thought he would. It was nice to see more of Abby and Jenny. Since Taylor is so young, it makes more sense to pair him with the younger castmates. I thought the jokes on Update were great, but the visitors were awful. Bon Jovi is as ridiculous as ever.

Very excied for next week! The Of Mice and Men sketch they did with James Franco last year was one of my favorites. I hope they do something like it again!
