Despicable Me Released Today

The animated movie Despicable Me, which features the voice SNL star Kristen Wiig, is released in theaters today. The film, directed by
Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud, has received terrific reviews thus far with the Rotten Tomatoes critical consensus being,
"Borrowing heavily (and intelligently) from Pixar and Looney Tunes,Despicable Me is a surprisingly thoughtful, family-friendly treat with a few surprises of its own."

The film tells of one of the world's greatest villains meeting his match - in three orphaned little girls.  Aside from Wiig, the film features the voicework of Steve Carell, Miranda Cosgrove, Jason Segel, Jemaine Clement, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews and many more.

So even if its just an excuse to get in out of the heat, make sure to go see Despicable Me, in theaters everywhere.

Lorne Michaels Give Reaction to SNL Nominations | NY Times

Here are three words we never expected to hear from Lorne Michaels: “It’s all good.”
Mr. Michaels, the creator and veteran producer of “Saturday Night Live,” was reacting to the news he learned on Thursday – having flown home from London the night before, watched the World Cup matches recorded on his DVR, and gone to bed at 2 a.m. – that “S.N.L.” had received 13 Emmy Award nominations, making it the most nominated show in the awards program’s history.
“We’ve run longer than most television critics,” Mr. Michaels said of “Saturday Night Live,” which has racked up a total of 126 Emmy nominations since its debut in 1975.
Mr. Michaels said he took particular pride that six of the Emmy nods “S.N.L.” earned were for the May 8 broadcast hosted by Betty White: Ms. White was nominated as guest actress in a comedy series, and the episode was nominated for writing, directing, hairstyling, lighting direction and makeup.
And,” Mr. Michaels said, “it was one of those shows that it turned out that everyone was at home. It’s just a tribute to her and how that all came together. I was really proud of that show.”
He was more bemused by the new lifetime Emmy record that “S.N.L.” now holds, and the fact that his show had surpassed “E.R.”, which racked up 124 nominations in its history.
“It’s such an odd apples-and-oranges comparison,” Mr. Michaels said. “We’ve been on a long time. And the nice part about being on a long time is you are going to break some records. If only for being on a long time.”
Told he did not have to be modest about these accomplishments, Mr. Michaels replied, “Well, it’s the Canadian part of me.”

Seth Meyers press -

As you guys are all fully aware of by now, Seth Meyers is hosting the ESPYs next Wednesday and as such has been doing an inordinate amount of press. Here are links to two articles -

Don't forget, Meyers appears on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno next Monday.

Simon Rich article in The New York Observer

The New York Observer ran a neat piece about SNL writer Simon Rich yesterday. You can read the article here.
The article features Bill Hader, John Mulaney and Seth Meyers all talking about Rich, as well as Rich's renowned father Frank Rich who says his son  is "fairly fanatical" about New York and "its history, its lore".

Also, if you haven't already purchased Elliot Alagash - what's wrong with you? Buy it on Amazon now.

People Magazine is reporting that SNL alum Rachel Dratch is expecting her first baby. New York Magazine had speculated that Dratch was pregnant after she attended the premiere of The Kids Are All Right with Amy Poehler last week and today People Magazine confirmed the story was true. Dratch is due in September.

Congratulations, lady!
