Simon Rich Novel to be released May 25

As some of you may know, I'm a huge fan of SNL writer Simon Rich and his collections Ant Farm and Free Range Chickens. Well think of how excited I was when I learned that he has a new novel coming out on May 25 called Elliot Allagash. Here's the synopsis from the Random House website -

Seymour Herson is the least popular student at Glendale, a private school in Manhattan. He’s painfully shy, physically inept, and his new nick-name, “chunk style,” is in danger of entering common usage. But Seymour’s solitary existence comes to a swift end when he meets the new transfer student: Elliot Allagash, evil heir of America’s largest fortune.
Elliot’s rampant delinquency has already gotten him expelled from dozens of prep schools around the country. But despite his best efforts, he can’t get himself thrown out of Glendale; his father has simply donated too much money. Bitter and bored, Elliot decides to amuse himself by taking up a challenging and expensive new hobby: transforming Seymour into the most popular student in the school.

An unlikely friendship develops between the two loners as Elliot introduces Seymour to new concepts, like power, sabotage, and vengeance. With Elliot as his diabolical strategist and investor, Seymour scores a spot on the basketball team, becomes class president, and ruthlessly destroys his enemies. Yet despite the glow of newfound popularity, Seymour feels increasingly uneasy with Elliot’s wily designs. For an Allagash victory is dishonorable at its best, and ruinous at its worst.

Cunningly playful and wickedly funny,
Elliot Allagash is a tale about all of the incredible things that money can buy, and the one or two things that it can’t.

Sounds good, huh? Pre-order it on Amazon and save $7.36 -http://www.amazon.com/Elliot-Allagash-Novel-Simon-Rich/dp/1400068355/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1272898022&sr=8-1

And if you are unfamiliar with Rich's hilarious works, familiarise yourself here with some pieces he wrote for the uber-prestigious publication The New Yorker (it published a short story by Gossip Girl character Dan Humphrey, how much more prestigious do you get?)

Hey guys,
SNL Update writer/all-around nice guy Alex Baze has agreed to answer a few, brief questions for the blog! So, dear readers, if you have any questions you would like me to ask Alex Baze, please leave them in the comments below and I'll pick a few of the best to ask him! I'm only taking questions up until early tomorrow morning, so think hard & think fast!
Thanks,
-A
P.S - This is kind of the coup of my life! I started this blog almost two years ago, with the intention of one day getting an interview with someone at SNL, so to have it finally come to fruition is amazing for me!

Where Will Forte will play Jenna's new boyfriend! Is it just me or do these pictures suggest that Will Forte would be perfect for La Cage Aux Folles?

A Night Out With Will Forte

Don't know how I missed this, but evidently I did. Here's a piece the NY Times did on Will on April 18.

An Oral History of Insane Clown Posse Parodies

http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/04/26/fools-gold-an-oral-history-of-the-insane-clown-posse-parodies/

Okay, this is actually amazing. SNL writers Colin Jost & Michael Patrick O’Brien, Insane Clown Posse and the creator of Juggalo News track the unlikely success of Kickspit Underground Rock Festival and Thrilla Killa Klownz. I knew that Kickspit Underground Rock Festival was a parody of a super-bizarre infomercial, but I had no idea that Thrilla Killa Klownz was also based on a real-life thing.

This article explains it better though.

Emily Spivey Joining Parks & Recreation Writing Staff

Long-time SNL scribe Emily Spivey is set to join the writing staff of Parks & Recreation, according to this report in The Wrap. Spivey wrote a great deal for Amy Poehler during Poehler's tenure at SNL so its a pretty natural fit. The report doesn't make clear if Spivey is leaving SNL, though with Parks & Rec shot out in Los Angeles, that would appear to be the case.
Spivey has been with SNL since 2001 and currently serves as the show's writing supervisor.

Gabourey Sidibe/MGMT Ratings

Saturday Night Live,  hosted by Gabourey Sidibe and featuring musical guest MGMT  delivered a 4.7/12 household rating/share in metered-market households.  In the 25 markets with local people meters, Saturday Night Live averaged a 2.7/11 in adults 18-49 and was the night’s #1 telecast, including primetime.  That’s about 10% less than last week’s episode hosted by Ryan Phillippe with musical guest Ke$ha, which was about 10% less than the Tina Fey hosted episode the prior week.
